Sled Island Film, Tribute and Curator’s Update
The film fest has started with the showing of ‘Do It Again – One Man’s Quest To Reunite The Kinks’ at the Plaza. It was a lovely film. Unfortunately, during the screening Geoff Edgers, the producer or the film, phoned the Plaza to let us know that Pete Quaife had passed away, thus officially ending Geoff’s dream of reuniting the original line up of the Kinks.

RIP Peter Quaife (1943-2010), original bassist of The Kinks
It was a great film and there are many more to come.

In curatorial news we have made a collective decision that King Khan will be going home to his family in Berlin to get some rest after an incredibly busy touring schedule for the past year. We will miss Khan at this year’s festival, but we love and support him and are looking forward to his triumphant return to Calgary.
Khan’s support and love of Calgary and of Sled Island have helped set the stage for what we anticipate will be the best 4 days of music taking place in North America next week. For those coming from out of town, we are excited to welcome you to Calgary! And Calgary, your downtown venues are ready to welcome you.
It’s gonna be a party. After Sled Island Film it all kicks off with art shows on Tuesday and an after party at Broken City. The latest schedule (with some updates) is online now. Please revise your courses accordingly!
SEE YOU SOON!!!! AND THANK YOU FOR YOUR OVERWHELMING SUPPORT THIS YEAR!!!!
Love,
Zak and the whole Sled Island crew- Drew, Paisley, Josh, Richard, Twyla, Megan, Ron, Colin, Evan, our volunteers, sponsors, venues, partners and everyone who has helped us out this year.
