Illingworth Kerr Gallery’s Summer Show Reception at Illingworth Kerr Gallery (ACAD) (1407 14 Ave NW)  on Tuesday June 29, 5-7pm. The Illingworth Kerr Gallery’s Summer Show features a selective overview of recent artmaking tendencies in Calgary by a new generation of artists with a desire to make its own art history.Founded in their home by recent ACAD grads Heather Kai Smith and Bree Zorel, the Contemporary Art Museum is a call for change on a shoe-string budget while simultaneously questioning the absence of a professionally-run contemporary art museum in the wealthiest city in the New West. No independent contemporary art society, private foundation or other public entity in Calgary has realized this goal, therefore it is left to artists to speculate on the power of their seductive ideas. Their mission statement is simple: “The CAM. A DIY Museum dedicated to dear, sweet, contemporary art. We rock a permanent collection, host temporary exhibitions, and just generally do the best we CAM!”
